In this portrait of Flavio, I was seeking to convey a resonance with classical sculpture, while situating him in the modern. Flavio’s Italian ancestry gives a direct line to classical imperial sculpture, with its messages of triumph and status. Yet also here is a man for our times, ambitious, yet sensitive, confident yet caring. The noble strength of the face, the vision, framed in the casual openness of the hoodie.
